Tarzan lets slip the truth

You don't have to take it from Rob Knight. Nor do you have to believe what Arnando Ianucci says either (funny though it undoubtedly is). No less a person than Michael Hesseltine has confirmed (at around 3 mins 3 secs into this interview) what we already know, that New Labour is One Nation Conservatism, inefficiently delivered".

Of course Heseltine presupposes that the Conservatives would (i) deliver a One Nation agenda and (ii) do it more efficiently than New Labour. The evidence in support of either proposition is far from convincing. It is evident from the disquiet on the Tory right that, if as seems the most likely scenario for a Tory win, their majority was a narrow one, they would be beholden to the Cornerstone Group and unlikely to be able to press through a centrist agenda. Furthermore, the two key ministers in any Tory goverment, Chancellor and PM, would be Osborne and Cameron himself. Their records of delivery outside of Parliament are not strong; Osborne famously has had no job outside of politics, and Cameron's experience is limited to spinning the collapse of On Digital.

If New Labour are an insipid version of One Nation Conservativism, what does that make policy-free Cameron's Conservatives?
